Inventory decisions require more than a stock count. Teams need velocity, lead time, age, margin and marketplace context to decide what deserves action first.
Separate urgency from importance
A stock-out on a low-value SKU and a stock-out on a major contributor should not receive the same priority. Add revenue and margin context.
Use days of cover
Translate units into expected selling days using recent velocity and known seasonality.
Review aging inventory as cash exposure
Group slow-moving stock by age, value and action path: improve, transfer, discount, liquidate or stop replenishing.
Track decisions through arrival
A replenishment recommendation is not complete when a purchase order is placed. Monitor shipment, receiving and availability recovery.
